A team from the University of Miyazaki, Japan visited North South University (NSU) on 19th May, 2022. The team, consisting of several personnel from the University of Miyazaki and different Japanese companies attended a day-long program and discussion meeting about the B-JET ((Bangladesh-Japan ICT Engineers’ Training Program) and B-MEET (Bangladesh-Miyazaki ICT Engineers and Educational Training) programs with the top administrative personnel of NSU.
Shinnosuke Tasaka and Yasunori Yano from the Miyazaki University and Kayoko Kitagawa, Senior Managing Director, Fumikatsu Homma, Managing Director and Keigo Sato, manager from KEIRINKAN Co, Ltd. were present at the conference. Tomoto Nakai, Director of Glocal Project Co.,Ltd. and Yuji Maeda, Representative Director of REXEM, Inc. also joined the visiting team.
Part of the program was held in hybrid mode as top authorities from different Japanese organizations attended online. The B-JET training program was first initiated through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed among Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), North South University (NSU), and The University of Miyazaki (UoM) on 24th February 2021. The aim of this program is to support the capacity development of Bangladeshi ICT engineers and future ICT engineers who have the potential to create business networks between Japan and Bangladesh. 50% of trainees from the 9th batch have secured job opportunities in Japan through this training program.
The director of the Career and Placement Center of NSU, Professor Mohammad Khasro Miah and his team greeted the Japanese team at 9.00 am at the NSU campus. The team met some of the advance level students of the B-JET program and attended a presentation session. Professor Khasro Miah delivered the opening remarks and started the session.
The session was facilitated by Professor Yano where participants presented and discussed various issues and topics like the school system, employment companies, and environmental issues. Professor Keisuke Murakami from the University of Miyazaki delivered the closing remarks online. After the meeting, the Japanese team was taken on a campus tour by team CPC.
The visiting team later had a discussion meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, treasurer, deans and other department heads of NSU. Professor Atiqul Islam, the Vice-Chancellor of NSU presided over the meeting and expressed his hopes of a stronger bond between Bangladesh and japan. Professor Khasro Miah closed the meeting at 4:30 pm by thanking all the attendees. The day-long program ended after a short photo session.
The Career and Placement Center (CPC) of NSU has been leading the project on behalf of NSU from the beginning under the leadership of Prof. Mohammad Khasro Miah, Director of CPC. Being the department in charge of career, internship, and job placements, CPC of North South University is always working on creating a bridge between the students and the corporate world. The MoU signed among BCC, NSU and the University of Miyazaki has added another feather to their crown of success. Every year at least 80 students will get a chance to enroll in this program.
The first five months of the training module will be held at NSU and the second three months of advance training will be held in Japan. After the success of the B-JET program, CPC has initiated another program titled the B-MEET which will serve as another milestone program for the graduates of North South University. Like the B-JET program, B-MEET will also open up enormous job opportunities for our engineering graduates that will benefit the employment sector of Japan and Bangladesh.
