The farmers of the district are expecting the bumper production of garlic in this season due to favorable climatic condition.
While visiting on the spot the farmer Monnaf 56 and Abdul Jabbar 70 of village Gajaibari under Mogolbacha union of Kurigram Sadar upazila told this correspondent that we have cultivated in one bigha of land. We are expecting for bumper production due to favorable climatic condition and we are harvesting now.
Another farmer Motiur Rahman Babul 52 and Sekendar Ali 72 of village Madailhal under Kaliganj union of Nagswari upazila told this correspondent that we have cultivated garlic on my 30 decimal of land in this season and we are expecting for bumper production.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official sources, a total of 680 hectares of land have been brought under onion cultivation with production target of 2340 metric tons and the production on an average was 7.55 metric tons in this year. Meanwhile 90 percent the garlic fields have been harvested.
Upazila wise cultivation are as follows: Some 33 hectares of land have been brought under onion cultivation at Kurigram Sadar upazila,160 hectares at Ulipur,32 hectares at Chilmari,82 hectares at Roumari,38 hectares at Rajibpur,85 hectares at Bhurungamari,135 hectares at Nageswari,65 hectares at Fulbari and 50 hectares at Rajarhat upazila.
Some 600 hectares of land were brought under garlic cultivation and achievement of 679 hectares with last year and the production on an average was 7.55 metric tons.
